All of these photographs have been taken by myself, Charlie Wheeler, a 26 year old from Bridport, Dorset. My admiration of the natural world is what initially inspired me to take up photography. From studying a degree in Animal Behaviour, the idea of having the ability to capture and record a single moment in time, where I can create a unique and artistic representation of an animal’s true behaviour, beauty and expression, has a great appeal to me.

I took up photography as a hobby about seven years ago and I particularly enjoy taking pictures of wildlife and landscapes, in and around west Dorset. I have been a member of the Bridport Camera Club for four years , where I have gained knowledge and expertise from accomplished photographers and where my own images have been awarded prizes for ‘in club’ competitions.

Working at the Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, I can couple my passion of conservation and working in the great outdoors with my new love of photography. At the Swannery I am able to photograph birds in their natural habitat, as well as capturing other wildfowl and mammals. Away from work I try to take my camera where I can to try to better my skills and broaden my portfolio, so you will find a selection of images taken from elsewhere in the UK and a collection from my recent voluntary conservation trip to Botswana.

A particular achievement of mine was having my image of a ‘Water Vole’ featured and credited in the Dorset Wildlife Magazine, winter 2008.

Thank you for your interest. I hope you enjoy looking at my images as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
