All of these photographs have been taken by myself, Charlie Wheeler, a 31 year old from Bridport, Dorset (the one on the right). My admiration of the natural world is what initially inspired me to take up photography. From studying a degree in Animal Behaviour, the idea of having the ability to capture and record a single moment in time, where I can create a unique and artistic representation of an animal’s true behaviour, beauty and expression, has a great appeal to me.
I took up photography as a hobby when I was in my late teens and I particularly enjoy taking pictures of wildlife and landscapes, in and around west Dorset. I have been a member of the Bridport Camera Club since 2008 and whilst at the club I have gained knowledge and expertise from accomplished photographers, which has helped me refine my skills as a photographer.
Working as the manager of the Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset and as Warden of the Chesil Bank and Fleet Nature Reserve, I can couple my passion for conservation and working in the great outdoors with my love of photography. At the Swannery and on the Reserve I am able to photograph birds in their natural habitat, as well as capturing other wildfowl and mammals. Away from work I try to take my camera where I can to try to better my skills and broaden my portfolio. You will find a selection of images taken from elsewhere in the UK and a collection from my two trips to Botswana.
Thank you for your interest. I hope you enjoy looking at my images as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
